What is Schema Informed Therapy?
Schema Informed Therapy is an integrative approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, attachment theory, and other therapeutic models to address deeper emotional wounds. It focuses on identifying and healing “maladaptive schemas” which are deeply ingrained patterns of memories, emotions, beliefs and body sensations, that develop in childhood and often continue to play out in adult life.
How It Works
Schema therapy helps people to recognise their own schemas that may have formed due to early life experiences, such as neglect, abuse, or inconsistent care. The therapist uses a range of techniques, including experiential and limited re-parenting, that directly address and help a person heal from childhood wounds and to move past self-sabotage.
Who Can Benefit from Schema Informed Therapy?
This therapy approach is ideal for people who find themselves stuck in unhelpful relationship patterns or who struggle with self-worth, difficulties trusting people and unresolved trauma.
I’ve found this approach also works so well for clients who aren’t really sure why they keep feeling so low when they may have built a life that they thought would bring them happiness.
Transformation Through Schema Therapy
Through Schema Informed Therapy, clients can begin to break free from destructive life patterns. With time, they can heal past wounds, build healthier relationships, and develop a greater sense of self-worth. The transformation is often deep and lasting, promoting emotional resilience and long-term well-being.
