An Emotional Reckoning

On the surface life looks pretty good. You have a career, a home, family and friends – a life that you know you’re fortunate to have.

But underneath you’re unhappy, overwhelmed and exhausted.

The exhaustion you’re experiencing isn’t just about how much is on your plate right now. It’s about the patterns that have been running since childhood – the deeply held beliefs about who you are, what you deserve and what’s expected of you.

Anxiety, low confidence, self-criticism and self-sabotage are almost always rooted here.

 Sound Familiar?

No matter what you do, the same difficult experiences keep showing up.

You find yourself stuck in overthinking – to the point it becomes paralysing.

You’ve become an expert at performing, showing up and being who everyone expects or needs you to be, but underneath you feel like you’re drowning.

You keep striving and pushing yourself, but never truly feel the satisfaction from your effort.

You’re independent and tend to just get on with it, but frequently find yourself feeling unappreciated, frustrated and burnt-out.

You find yourself feeling alone, even if you’re surrounded by people you care about.

These experiences are linked to beliefs you hold about your worth, your place in relationships and your safety – and they’ve been influencing your choices for a long time.

Time For A Change

If you’ve landed here, you have reached a reckoning point – you can no longer keep pushing through the signals that your mind and body are giving you.

Therapy is where breakthroughs happen. Where the unconscious becomes conscious and you finally have a choice about the patterns that are no longer serving you. This is the support I offer. With nearly two decades of experience, I’m on a mission to help people gain clarity, untangle themselves from the past, and experience the freedom and joy that comes with living a life aligned with who they are.

‘I had therapy with Joanne […] and it was life changing. I went from having debilitating anxiety and constantly ruminating to breaking free from those negative cycles and learning techniques to help when times are tough.’

John, Manchester

Meet Jo

After 18 years as a psychotherapist – including over a decade working in the NHS – I founded Spring Psychotherapy to offer something different.

I’ve experienced the burnout that comes from pushing through impossible standards. I’ve been the sensitive child who played peacekeeper and emotional caretaker – adaptations that served me well then– but became exhausting patterns in adulthood.

So when you tell me you can’t stop managing everyone else’s emotions, that you say yes when you mean no, that you’re exhausted by a life that looks completely fine from the outside? I don’t just understand that professionally. I understand it personally.

I specialise in therapy that doesn’t just manage symptoms. I help you understand the patterns that have been running for decades, connect your past experiences to your present struggles, and create lasting transformation.

Many of my clients find me after other approaches haven’t quite got them there. They’re done with life hacks and surface-level strategies. They’re ready to understand WHY they operate the way they do – and to change it at the root.

That’s the work I do. And after nearly two decades, I can tell you: real, lasting transformation is possible.

Spring Psychotherapy – The Team

I’m currently building a team of exceptional therapists who share this commitment to deep, transformational work. While I specialise in high-functioning anxiety, trauma, and the patterns rooted in early life experiences, our practice also includes therapists with expertise in other areas. If you’re looking for support in an area outside my specialism, I can connect you with a trusted colleague who’s the right fit.

‘I was at an all time low when I first saw Jo, not knowing how I could get through each day. Jo was empathetic, professional and helped me slowly build my confidence and find joy in life again.’

What changes when you work with me

Gain Clarity

You’ll finally understand why you feel the way you feel, and how your past experiences have shaped the patterns that are running your life today. This isn’t about symptom management, this is about addressing difficulty at the source.

Break Free From Old Patterns

We’ll identify the beliefs and coping patterns that are causing problems and work to change them at the root. Through CBT, Schema Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy and EMDR, you’ll let go of the coping strategies that once protected you but now hold you back.

Develop Real Self-Trust

The most important relationship you have is the one with yourself. Together we’ll tame your inner-critic and build genuine self-compassion. You will learn how to have your own back, so you feel stronger and able to show up as you truly are, not who you think you need to be.

Increased Contentment

Whether you’ve been dealing with anxiety, episodes of depression, or a low-level dread that you can’t quite name – you don’t have to keep white-knuckling through life. You’ll discover a pathway to feeling settled, calmer and more content.

‘Joanne helped me get to where I wanted to be and to be the person I’ve always wanted to become! Joanne is compassionate and I felt safe and comfortable to share my worries from our very first session.’

Jack, Manchester

Get the Help You Need

My therapy room is located in a beautiful townhouse near Tatton Park in Knutsford, Cheshire. I specialise in working with adults – particularly those in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s who are dealing with self-doubt, anxiety, self-criticism, perfectionism, people-pleasing and other forms of self-sabotage.

However, many of the people who come to me struggle to name exactly what’s wrong, they just know something needs to change. That’s enough – we will figure out the rest together.

With more than 18 years of experience in the field of mental health, I’m a fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I have undertaken additional specialist training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), which means I have the toolkit to help you with the problems that are happening NOW and what happened THEN.

I support clients experiencing specific difficulties such as PTSD, OCD, panic attacks, and depression. I also see people who are struggling with low confidence, excessive worry, burnout, and the sense that he same painful patterns keep repeating.

Associate Opportunities

Spring Psychotherapy is growing. I’m building a collaborative group practice of exceptional therapists who want the freedom of private work with the support of an established practice.
